Digi Makeover Challenge 2

>> Monday, September 12, 2011

It's a wonderful Monday which means the 2nd installment of the Digi Makeover challenges brought to you by the PMS Digi Makeup Artists!

In case you missed it, Paper Makeup Stamps now has a digi design team! And each week the team brings you a new challenge, with a new prize! This weeks challenge is a sketch challenge!

Here is this week's sketch!

And here is my card using Moody for Fall and the sentiment from the new set Color it Autumn!

My card total size is 5.25 by 5.25. Since I knew I was covering a large sqare card, I knew I had some space to fill. Which is one of the reasons i do love digis! P printed out Moody for Fall a bit larger than the rubber version. She's so much fun to color! I even gave her a bit of makeup including glitter pen around her eyes and lips. :D

The Rules
- You must use a digital image on your entry
(hey, it is a digi challenge after all)
- The challenge will be every Monday
- A winner will be selected every week by random.org
- The winner will get to choose any 3 digi images from PMS as their prize. If the winner used a PMS image on their entry, they'll get 2 bonus images (for a total of 5!)
- You may enter as many times as you want, there is no limit; however, you may not link back to old posts (prior to the challenge post)
- You may combine our challenge with any other challenge you like
- Please post a link directly to your individual blog post using Mr. Linky so we can find and admire your creation!

Note: These are the rules on the PMS Company blog! So you'll need to go there to find MR Linky and link back your entry for this week's challenge!

PMS hosts the Party Time Tuesday Challenge

>> Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Today Paper Makeup Stamps is the sponsor over at the Party Time Tuesday Challenge blog!

I actually got a card made and school isnt even in session yet! Jack starts kindergarten TOMORROW! I know a lot of mom's get really sad but i am just SO excited! For him and for me. HAHAHAHAHA! I love my kids and i love hanging out with them, but man, freelance and work at home mom (minus when i'm gone for weddings and photoshoots, etc) is busy and exhausting in the summer!

Still I do love summer and wanted to celebrate the Party Time Tuesday sketch challenge with a summery feel card!

Here is my card...

I used the set Sailing By which is available both as a rubber set and a digi download set!
I paperpieced the sails. I've seen so many others do it and always loved the look so I thought it was high time i did it to this set as well! And I must said, it's such a fun way to dress up the stamp! And on top of that, the sails are large and not at all difficult to cut out so putting this card together was so quick and easy! I did use copics to color the boat itself. Super quick! I used E27, E25 and E23 with BG49 and BG45 for the blue line.

The other thing that made this card so easy was a fun sketch to work with!
And when you use the Party Time Tuesday sketch and enter it over on their blog, you are entered to win a $15 gift certificate to the PMS store for any rubber or digi stamps you want!

So be sure to check it out and also check out the PMS blog since a few of the design team members played along as well and made AWESOME samples of this sketch using PMS stamps!

Cardabilities Sketch Challenge

>> Monday, February 28, 2011

Today Paper Makeup Stamps is sponsoring the Cardablities Sketch Challenge Blog.
I absolutely love sketches... maybe it's because i can never seem to come up with any new card designs on my own! Haha! Sketches are so much fun because they really make you think outside of your norm. Sometimes I take them literally, and sometimes loosely. This time was more literal than loose. hehe. Here is my card...

The sketch to the left is the sketch provided for the challenge. I decided to use one of the Moody Girls because i knew she would be fairly easy to cut out. Once i did cut her out, I realized she lost many of the stars around her. So i decided to also stamp her on the white card sock before all the layers and then pop up the cut out image on top. It worked out well because the scalloped ribbon at the bottom of my card is THICK! No pop up needed down there! haha!

Other than that, my card came together pretty simply.
Here is a close up of the Moody for Music image.
I colored her with a slew of Copic Markers. I wanted to keep her a little punky, so i opted to color her hair purple. It's not the first time ive colored a moody girl's hair purple. Maybe it's because i'd secretly love to have purple hair myself. haha! To achieve the copic purple hair, i used V09, V04 and V01. Blue used for her dress were B16, B14, B12, B01, Pinks were RV25, RV23, RV10. Skin E00, E21 with some R30 for her cheeks. Stars were Y38, Y35, and Y32.

My hexagon shapes were from an old (i think retired now) punch from Creative Memories and the sentiment is a sentiment single from Paper Makeup Stamps you can find here.

So thats what i have for ya! Be sure to check out the PMS blog for more sketch card samples from some of the Paper Makeup Stamps design team as well as the Cardablities Sketch Challenge Blog to enter your card! There is a $15 gift certificate to the PMS site up for grabs!

November Fairy Sneak Peeks for Paper Makeup Stamps

>> Thursday, November 4, 2010

The sneak peeks have begun for Paper Makeup Stamps! Yesterday the newest wordart was sneaked, today it's new fairies! This month I decided to visit a favorite childhood christmas memory! The Nutcracker!!! Not as many crafting friends know this, but i was a hard core dancer at one time (ok, in my YOUNGER years!) but i continued to dance Ballet thru college.
I have been in The Nutcracker Ballet 9 times! I never reached the prize role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, but I did dance the part of Claire (among many many other roles thru my years of dancing).
So for me, the holidays and the nutcracker go hand in hand!
When i asked Diem to create some nutcracker themed fairies, she was very excited. We had a lot of fun chatting back and forth about the images. Be sure to check out the company blog for sneak peeks of all the fairies!

Here is my card using the Sugar Plum Fairy and one of the new holiday wordarts!
I used yesterdays sketch challenge (SC305) for my card layout and the papers are from My Minds Eye. The collection is from their Lost & Found line and is called Market Street: adore. It's a little hard to see in the photos, but the text paper is written in french! I have no idea what it says, but i thought it was awfully appropriate for a ballet image!

Here is a closeup of the Sugar Plum Fairy...
She was color with copic markers... R81, R83, R85, R89, E53, E51, E21, E00, E25 and a lot of spica pen which unfortunately i didnt get a good picture of.
I played around a bit with the shading around the image. I'm not sure i've quite got the hang of the "dots" but it's fun to play! Even though this isnt an overly christmas card, it is still the Sugar Plum Fairy. I plan on sending this card to my ballet instructor all those years! She trained me from the time i was 6 til i was 22! She deserves a card!

DOn't forget there are ways to win free rubber this week over on the PMS company blog, so check it out!!!! And please join us in our release party this coming sunday from 9-11 pm EST in our forum!!!

A Friendly Challenge with Verve

>> Sunday, September 12, 2010

So at the most recent Verve Stamps release... i was hemming and hawing over what stamps to get. And i was thinking, i do have so many stamps that need to see some ink... but man these are so cah-uuuuuute! I NEEEEEED them. We've all been there right? Trying to decide whether or not we truly need to have another flower set? Well... my dear friend Tina is ever the enabler. She said, oh you HAVE to get them, because i am going to challenge you to use them! And challenge she did! She issued 2 challenges... one to use a sketch based off of THIS CARD and then to make a tag. We ended up getting the same stamp sets, so this was a fun "challenge". I can't wait to see what she came up with! She issued these challenges the night of the verve release, but we both had so much going on with other releases (included both of us with PMS) that we decided September 12th would be OUR challenge day! It's a bit of a...um.... throwdown if you will!

So here's what i did with the sketch challenge...

I used Verve's set, Great Friend. I LOVE those flowers! And i mean LOVE! I love that there are both outlines and solids. I even created my own background paper with them. I was 100% the stamper for this card! :D And look what else fun you can do with this set...
Layers GALORE! I love giving added dimension to a card or scrapbook layout and foam adhesive just rocks! Plus it doesnt add a lot of weight but it does give depth!!! I did add both blind and stickles to the top most layer to so there is some mega depth. It's a good thing i hand delivered this card yesterday (i had a friend having a bummer of a day so i had her in mind for this card the whole time anyway!)

Ok... next challenge was to make a tag. Easy enough, right? Well i stamped the front of this um, maybe 7 or 8 times? Or MORE. I just couldnt get it right. The ink wouldnt do what i wanted to, and then the embossing wouldnt work the way i wanted. I finally figured out my perfect combo and then i was very pleased with the result. I think this tag would make a great bookmark and i have just the person in mind to send it to. :D Oh yeah, you have to see it right?

I had a really hard time photographing it after everything. The embossing powder really reflected the light. hahahaha. It does look prettier in real life, but you get the idea.

Ok... so now you have to see what tina did. No doubt they are STUNNING!

1 card - 3 "assignments" WOOT!

>> Saturday, September 11, 2010

oooooo... i multi tasked for my card today! I wanted to have a card up for the Release in Review post for Paper Makeup Stamps... I am the sponsor for the challenge that went live at midnight over at Color Me Creative (more on that in a bit) AND sketch saturday is having a sketch challenge today that i was lucky enough to get a peek of the sketch before making my card!

So... 1 card... 3 "assignments". I feel accomplished!

My card went a little circus on me... no no no... it's daring. Afterall, life is a daring adventure, or nothing! RIght? hehehehe. Ok, so yeah, it's a seriously bright and glittery card! But i was in a chipper mood making it since i just had my first date night in a couple of years (not kidding!)

Ok... so here's my "assignments" for the day!
Well... the review was easy... just wanted to use one of the new releases from the September release! Done and Done and in fact, i used 2! The pinwheel is Kat's Pinwheel and it is SO much fun to color (again.... more on that later!!!) and the wordart is the new larger sized Daring Adventure wordart.

Next up... I (personally, not the stamp company) am this week's challenge hostess in the Copic Challenge group over at the Color Me Creative Classroom. Anyone can be a member of this challenge group. Just become a member of Suzanne Dean's Color Me Creative Classroom (she also have phenom classes, but you can be a community member for free). For the challenge this week, I challenge everyone to use feather blending of 2 contrasting colors. So by contrasting, they need to be opposite of each other or at least very different from each other. In this case, i used Blue into Red (B37, B34, B31, R30, R32, R35, R37 - yes i fit all those into that tiny space!) and then also YR18, YR15, YR12, YG11, YG13, YG17.

To achieve this look, i work from the outsides in starting with my darkest colors first and then eventually overlapping my lightest colors in the center.

GIVEAWAY - i'm giving away 2 new release stamps to a participant of this challenge! So go over and check it out!!!

Ok, last but not least is the sketch challenge over at Sketch Saturday.
The sketch is fun and since i knew i wanted to use the pinwheel image for my copic challenge i thought, well hot dog! That star can be a pinwheel! hahaha! And a wordart is still an image right? Well, it is to me! ;) My hardest part was the thinnest strip. I knew i wanted to follow the sketch and have something there... but my background paper had been covered quite a bit. So i used fun fiber! I rarely pull this out, but i just feel like it worked out perfectly! My other variation is my mat on the wordart image. Thats actually a negative cut from a MTME project i did a bit back. I save every single scrap. I was going to cut off the bump on the top, but it looked kinda fun and very marquee esque. Since my card was already a little carnival-ish... i decided to run with it and even used some bling to add to the glitz! I also used my new Smooch Spritz on 2 of my extra cardstock pieces. Holy MOLY does that stuff sparkle! That pink and blue cardstock was just plain ol' cardstock before my smooch got a hold of it (and my fingers! hahahahah, i am one glitter monster today!)

Ok... perhaps i'm still giddy from my date night, but now i must go. Have a wonderful day! Be sure to check out those awesome challenges and play along!!!!!

Blast from the Past Blog Hop from Taylored Expressions

>> Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Welcome to my stop in the Blast from the Past Blog Hop from Taylored Expressions! I am SO excited to participate in the hop this month! Various things have prevented me from doing the previous hops and I am just floored to be among some amazing talent in this lineup!
There is a link list at the end of my post... but if you want ALL the details about the hop, you can get started by going to the Taylored Expressions Blog.

Here is my card for you using the Berries and Cherries set...

I decided to use the Blast from the Past sketch provided by Sankari Wegman. It's totally optional but i am a HUGE fan of Sankari's so i really wanted to use the sketch. :D

I used up some of my October Afternoon (Fly a Kite collection) along with the Berries & Cherries. It just matches so well!
Not to mention that i {heart} october afternoon!

Here is a closer view of the strawberry image. I first stamped the image on vanilla cardstock in Rich Cocoa memento ink. I decided later i wasnt in love with that idea because i couldn't see as much definition in the lineart after everything was colored. So i went back over some of the lines with the rich cocoa memento marker and was pleased with the final look. You can really see the difference in the definition of the strawberries in the top of the basket verses the ones down inside the basket as those i didnt outline at all. I figured we didnt want them to stamp out quite as much so it was perfectly fine the way it was. I colored the image with Copics. R32, R35 and R37 for the berries and YG63, YG67 for the leaves/stems. The basket was done in E25 and E27. Once the image was colored, I cut it out with the smal classic circle spellbinders die and then airbrushed with it still inside the nestie. For this i used the R30 copic and i did not mask the image because the colored being sprayed on top was light, and i was really focusing on the edges anyway. I did take a white signio gel pen to add in a few highlights.
Final picture for you then i promise to send you on your merry way thru the hop! This is just a detail shot of some of the other extras i did for the card. The closeup itself is more of the button with i threaded with some twine. It is sitting on top of a punched circle of the October Afternoon paper which is sitting on top of another piece which was cut with the scalloped circles spellbinder die. My border was punched using an EK Success punch and then adorned with some kaisercraft pearls in Copper. I also stitched a bit on my card (YEAH - my sewing machine is back in working order... thanks to PINKY!). All of my edges were sponged with antique linen distress ink. So thats what i have for you! Now it's fine for you to mosie along and get LOTS more creative inspiration on the hop! I hope you've enjoyed your little visit to my blog!

Verve is having an AnniVERVEsary!!!!

>> Friday, August 20, 2010

One of the first non hostess stamp companies (and one of the ones that truly got me hooked on this "little hobby") is Verve Stamps. I adored them back in the day when they were verve visuals. ahhh.... memories. Well this month they are celebrating 3 years of extreme success in the stamping industry! WAY TO GO! It's no wonder since they have a ROCKIN' design team, fantabulous stamp designs and wonderful quality stamps. But i still admit, i'm jealous! hahaha!

There are 5 awesome sketches that Julee has put out for the occassion (and you know i love her sketches!). If you complete them all, you are entered to win the whole release and from the sneak peeks... oh i want this release!!!!

Here is just the first of the 5 sketches. We'll see if i'm lucky enough to get them all done! But the party is TONIGHT at 8! I hope to see you there! Join in the fun HERE.

SO here's my first vervie verve card!

I used the set ENJOY. It's just such a fun set because the butterfly when turned upside down
and stamped with the stem, looks like this really cool flower. I love it when a stamp set can have multiple uses!
The body and antennae are 2 separate stamps which since Verve stamps are clear are very easy to place exactly where you want them. If you arent a "colorer" then there is also a solid version of the stamp.
But I am a colorer. hahaha. I used copics here
R000, R00, R02, R05 and R08 to be exact!

I wanted to do something a little different with my organza trim than just tie a bow. So i started playing around with it and while i could get the organza to curl a bit just by using the ol' run scissors thru it trick, of course it would STAY where i wanted it. So i trimmed itsy bitsy pieces of scor tape (i'm sure a mini glue dot would have worked, but i knew where my scor tape was!) and put it just on the end of each curl and then placed it exactly where i wanted it on my card. Now looking at it perhaps i should have covered the knot. Oh well, it is what it is. hahahahaha!

All of my edges of cardstock from the white to the darker purple/maroon shade have been sponged with Tattered Rose distress ink. It's more noticeable in person than in the photos, but you can definitely see it on the white.

Paper Details: Patterened Paper is from the Marrakech collection from Basic Grey. Maroon cardstock is PTI (sorry, i totally cant remember the name!), Orange is Harvest by Bazzill and Red is Tulip from Close to My Heart stamped with the solid butterfly/flower image in tulip ink.

Punch along the side is from Fiskars. Circles were cut using Classic and Petite Scallop dies by Spellbinders.

Thanks for stopping by today!!

PMS release week review!

>> Monday, May 10, 2010

Howdy everyone! I hope that everyone had a fabulous mother's day yesterday - whether you celebrated with your mom, you are a mom, or you'd like to be a mom! I hope it was full of fun and relaxation!!!

Also - a quick shout out to my girl Christi! Today is her birthday! Go give her some love!

Paper Makeup Stamps had a release on May 7th - lots of fun at the party!
This week we're reviewing the stamps that were released.

I'm showing off Andi & Aaron, one of the new Beautiful Day Fairy images.
I love these cute kids in the wagon. I named them after my BFF since the womb and her little brother because thats exactly what they looked like as kiddos! I remember her little brother tagging along with us as wel played and our constantly friendly teasing... "what are you staring at?"... "Oh nothing i'm just gazing in your direction" oh he hated that! hahahaha!

Here is my card...

I also used the sketch challenge which you can read about HERE.

I did have to tweak the sketch just a smidgen to fit the image (i just moved the light pink rectangle down a bit)

Here's a close up view of the fairy image...

Also released was a bunch of children's inspired word art!
Here's a closeup below..

Thats all I have for you today!

Verve's Spring Fling Sketch Challenge

>> Monday, March 8, 2010

Holy cow - i got a card done! Normally it's this time of the month where i disappear for a few days. Well, I was a little ahead of schedule today and I noticed that the deadline wasnt until midnight today for the Verve Spring Fling Challenges. Sooooo, i thought, ya know, i have a spare 20 minutes to do the sketch challenge. So i put together this card. man, cards come together so fast when you just follow the sketch and dont have something to color!

I was pleased with the outcome as well...

I used a sentiment from the Beautiful You set which was the 2nd verve stamp set I ever bought (my very first set was starlight starbright which is retired and no longer available, sniff)

I used a butterfly from Prima to serve as my second circle. Only 2 come in a pack, but man are they pretty!

Here's a close up shot...

Ok, i spent most of my extra minutes on my card so not much time to type before the deadline! :)

Ok, if you dont hear from me for a few days, know i'm ok, just taking a breather from sneak peeks and releases!!! :) But i'll be back soon, i promise!

Paper Makeup Stamps Sneak Peeks day 1 - January!

>> Monday, January 11, 2010

Oh finally!!!! I felt like this day would never get here! Sneak Peek time for Paper Makeup Stamps! Pushing the release date back for January gave all the new design team members a little bit of time to get in the swing of things, plus made some down time after the holidays, but it just seemed like forever! Usually i'm thinking, what?! It's time for sneak peeks already?! Didnt we just HAVE a release! haha! This time, i was beyond ready to dive into these fun lovey dovey stamps!

Ok, confession... i have way more fun created valentine's cards than christmas cards! it's true! I do! Maybe it's my obession with red and sometimes pink. Maybe it's the love of hearts. Maybe it's because i feel like you can use valentine's day images all year. Maybe it's because by the time valentine's day rolls around i'm so tired of all things christmas crafting that it's my very welcomed change? Well, whatever it is... i love it!

My card for you today uses the Beautiful Day Fairy, Rose! I love her. Doesnt she look like she's in such bliss! The nice thing about her is she truly can be used for more than just valentine's day!

Here's my card...

I guess i was in a bit of a vintage feel! I knew i wanted to color her a little differently than i traditionally do, so i used all brown tones to create a sepia effect. Most colors were from the copic E3_ family. Follow down to the end of the post for a more detailed listing.

I used my rectangle nestabilities and embossed the image right in the nestie. Then i used Distress Inks (i know, GASP, i didnt use the airbrush) to dirty up my edges. I mostly used Tea Dye color with the exception of using Walnut Stain on my brown cardstock which is barely visible! haha! I also used the Tea Dye ink on the patterned paper (by Martha Stewart). The paper was very pretty but the white and brown really popped and i needed it a little more subdued. So the edges where sponged in a tad.

I also wanted to give a little shout out to Melissa Craig and her Tuesday Morning Sketches Challenge blog. This past week, Paper Makeup Stamps has been the sponsor. Melissa worked up a fabulous sketch and i just hadnt had the time to play with it yet. Well, since today is monday and not tuesday, there was still a little time to squeak in there with a card! There is still time for you to get in on the action to, so go check it out!

Ok, here are some detail shots...

Here's just a close up of Rose. See the sentiment there in the corner? Thats from a new set called Hugs & Kisses that is also being released on the 14th. :)

This is just a fun shot. I layered some various styles of Prima flowers and secured them with a bazzill bling brad. You cant see the shimmer of the brad in the picture, but it's there. :)

You know i always try to capture the sparkle! I love my Atyou Spica pens! Here you can see the chocolate spica pen along her hem line. She also has clear spica pen in her wings and her hair. The camera didn't capture that as well, but you can see it in real life and it's so pretty!

Dont forget to check out the PMS blog for more gooooooorgeous creations from the design team! There is a chance to win the entire release plus info on how to win a stamp of your choice!

Mark your calendars, the release date is January 14th! Party will be at 8pm CST in the forum which is when all the stamps will go live on the site!
