Makeup 4 the Weekend Challenge!

>> Friday, September 24, 2010

It's friday so that means another Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge for you from Paper Makeup Stamps. I KNOW - i've participated 2 weeks in a row! WOOT! This week we were challenged by Lisa McKinney to use this fun photo as inspiration for our project.

Now for anyone who knows me... they know i take inspiration challenges a smidgen literally. Probably entirely TOO literally! haha! Here's the card i so didnt really come up with...

Yeah i'm not so original, huh? I did have fun stamping the grass in orange. hehehe. Ok... so here's my breakdown of how i made the card...

First i took the grass from the Faith Hope Love set and first stamped it a little high in a burnt orange ink color (Autumn Terracotta by CTMH) and then again in a brown color so that the grass hung off the cardstock a bit giving me 2 different heights.
Then i stamped the swirlie tree in the same brown ink over the whole cardfront.
The sun image i created the same way i did in my post the other day (you can see it HERE if you missed it). This time i used Y15 copic marker with YR18 to give it a little depth.
Last but not least, i stamped the Ready for Fall sentiment right on top of it all.
The edges were sponged with Rusty Hinge distress ink.
I then layered my cardfront twice and bada bing bada boom my card was done. All in about 10 minutes. So i may not be original, but i was fast! hehehe!

Be sure to check out Christi Thorsen, Christi Snow and Dawn Barrett for some more fun projects using this inspiration! And check out the PMS Company Blog if you want to play along and get the chance to win the PMS stamp of your choice!

Makeup 4 the Weekend #42

>> Friday, September 17, 2010

Friday means another Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge from Paper Makeup Stamps and I played along AGAIN! Woot Woot! Go me for playing my own company's challenge. BWAHAHA. I say that in jest because i often miss the deadline to play. So sad really. I'm REALLY going to be more on top of it this fall. :D

Ok... here's the challenge... it's a sketch challenge, but Ginger adapted the sketch so that both cardmakers AND scrapbookers can play! I LOVE that!

I went the route of the cardmaker because quite frankly... that was what i had time for this week!

The 2 sketches are very similar... but obviously are just tweaked slightly for if you want a layout or a card. I really wanted to have 1 of each for this challenge! but hey, at least i have something, right?

I used paper and embellies from the Arelia's World of Makeup Believe kit again. I'm telling you, i love that kit! The papers are all from Echo Park's Life is Good collection. I also used some fun glitter ribbon from Making Memories and cut strips of the adheisve fabric (from American Crafts) all of which comes in the kit. Also in the kit are the In Stitches blossoms with the buttons already sewn on. Man i love those things. The only elements on my card that are NOT from the kit is the cream cardstock that i used around the circles, the liquid pearls next to the sentiment and then sentiment itself. However, the sentiment is one of PMS's many simple sentiment stamps that is sold by itself and is currently on sale for only a buck (as bare rubber)! You can find it HERE.

Be sure to check out the Paper Makeup Stamps blog to see what else this challenge has to offer you! There are more samples, and another sketch for you to check out if you are a scrapper! AND there is a free stamp up for grabs! But you have to play to win! So check it out!!!

Makeup 4 the Weekend Challenge M4TW40

>> Friday, August 27, 2010

WOOT WOOT! I have a card done for the Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge.... on the day it's issued! Man that feels good! I hate that i dont participate as much as some of my team does! Bad Mama! hahahaha! Anyhoo - for this week's challenge, Danni Bindel has challenged us to create a birthday card! Thats easy enough right?! Well i thought so!

So here was my thought process... doesnt it seem like birthday cards are the ones that sneak up on you? You think to tell your kids (because you dont dare tell them days early or you get asked every day if it's time for the party... or at least thats my house!) So you tell your kids... we have a birthday party to go to today! Then it dawns on you... oh CRAP! we have a birthday party to go to today! Ok, again, thats what happens in my house! hahahahha!

Well... given the right products, birthday cards dont HAVE to take an hour to make. Especially when about 15 minutes is all you have! This one actually took me LESS than 10!

So granted the only stamping I did on the card was my sentiment. The rest all came from the paper scraps of the layout i did the other day from THIS post. The paper is from My Mind's Eye Alphabet Soup. I am still LOVING this paper! I mentioned this in my post the other day, but it is double sided THICK paper! And i dont mean thick like too heavy for a card. But it's sturdy.... PERFECT for a card OR a layout. The additional elements are from the die cut sheet. Remember i told ya i'd show you some other ways to use them up! ;)
I did ink the edges of the elephant die cut a bit just because i wanted it to have the worn look I had given the papers by using Antique Linen distress ink. I used foam adhesive under the elephant and the buttons (i tied the twine thru the buttons prior to using the foam adhesive)

The sentiment is from the Cutie Critter Sayings sentiment set.

I cut the sentiment with the smallest die from the Spellbinders Labels Trio set and then layered it on top of another piece cut from one of the larger dies.

Now you know you wanna get in on this challenge! Check it out on the company blog! We will be drawing 1 lucky card for a free stamp! You dont have to have any PMS stamps to play, but you do need to use a PMS stamp or digi to win.

So check it out and have a FABULOUS weekend! Be sure to check back in tomorrow... i'll have my first peek of the My Time Made Easy release for you to see!!!!

Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge 38

>> Monday, August 16, 2010

Holy cow, i got crafty! And when i say i got crafty... i mean i got CRAFTY! My parents left yesterday ( a bit bummed about that) and my hubby went on a one day fishing trip. Even though i was feeling a bit on the yicky side (ok, the way yicky side, thanks to the REAL pms), i couldnt not take advantage of the opportunity to craft with reckless abandon. So i did get 4 cards done. They took all day, but it's fun when you can just work in bits and pieces all day long. THe hardest part about a day of crafting... is waiting to post all the fun! hahaha!

Ok, today i'm showing you my card for the Makeup 4 the weekend challenge, even though it's no longer the weekend! I did make it on the weekend! hahahah. The great thing about the M4TW challenge is it does not HAVE to be done on the weekend, you have until wednesday each week to get it done. And this week there is FREE RUBBAH being given away! Check out the post to read the details!

So this week, Paper Makeup Artist Bonnie challenged us to use Lime, Turquoise and Kraft on a card with the option of white and/or black as our neutrals. This is not a go to color combo for me, but i'm thinking maybe it should be! I loved working with this palette!

First i picked my papers from the Summertime collection from Echo Park. You know i'm pretty addicted to cloud paper so there was no twisting my arm to pull this out! But i also wanted an idea of where to go next with my card since i was feeling a bit mojoless!
So I took a peek over at the challenges for the week at Splitcoast Stampers. The ways to use it challenge was to use buttons. I have NO shortage of buttons! So i dug thru the neutral jar and found a shiny black one! Perfect! Since looking thru some of my fav cards people have sent me the other day, i knew i wanted to play around with the button inside a bow trick. And the Ways to Use it challenge reminded me! PERFECT! I found some pretty aqua satin ribbon (offray) that matched my papers and went to work fashioning my bow. Yep, i dont think it's perfect, but it's definitely something i'm going to be playing with more and more! I was able to cut my ribbon in half lengthwise to "sew" on my button.

My sentiment is an oldie but goodie from Paper Makeup Stamps called Don't Tell God. I think this is one of the most true sentiments out there! Love it! I stamped it on kfrat cardstock and cut it with the Labels 4 nestabilities die by spellbinders. I used a larger die from the same set to cut my cloud paper. I couldnt find any black pearls in my stash (I KNOW!) so i had to fashion my own! I just took some white pearls, my Copic 100 marker and the airbrush and VIOLA, black pearls! :D

And that's my card for ya today! Have a good one!

The Deets:
Paper: Echo Park, summertime collection; kraft cardstock by neenah
Tools: Labels 4 Nestabilities by Spellbinders
Accessories: Kaisercraft pearls, copic airbrush, offray ribbon, button from stash, memento ink and sponge daubers

A beautiful picture...

>> Friday, February 26, 2010

I hate that I dont have anything of my own crafty to show you today. My parents got into town yesterday (yeeeeeeeeeeah!) and we've been prepping for my son's birthday party on saturday and i've had a pretty large wholesale order i've been working on. :) So needless to say, crafting time has been slim. Hopefully my mom and I will get to have some crafty time tonight since my mom is a pretty great card maker herself! Plus there are going to be sneak peeks for both PMS and MTME coming up! In fact, Lauren has started the MTME peeks today, so you can go to HER blog to check that out! You can also check out Mona and Pam!

But i did have to share that the makeup 4 the weekend challenge from PMS starts today and OMG, lisa has picked the most beautiful picture as her inspiration!

Is that picture not just beautiful?! I want to print it and put it in a frame is so gorgeous! Oh and you should see what my dear friend Lisa Kind did with this as her inspiration!
Go check everything out HERE!

And hopefully i'll have somehting crafty to show you very soon! :)

PMS Makeup 4 the Weekend Challenge!!!

>> Friday, February 5, 2010

Ugh, i absolutely can not take this weather here anymore! It totally has be down in the dumps!
My craft room is at a stand still until i get some new furniture...
it's next to impossible to craft out of boxes!

All that said, i thought to myself today, i need something to perk me up!
I wonder what the Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge for PMS tomorrow is (I dont have anything to do with the challenges, that's all arranged by the design team coordinator extraordinaire... Christi)
Well, i'll be a monkey's uncle... This week's challenger is Danni Bindel and the challenge is anything with pink and sparkles.
If there is anything that is going to perk up a gloomy spirit.... it's something pink a sparkly!

And as luck would have it, daddy got home so my 3 year old tore downstairs to see him and at that moment, my 16 month old decided he wouldnt mind taking a little snooze! My luck!
So i got to coloring! It's been far too long since i've played with my copics! As in almost a week! This is unheard of for me!!!

Here's what i came up with...

It's not quite as sparkly as i suppose it could be, though i did use some spica pen in her hair and on her clothing that doesnt show up well in the photo. The flowers are SUPER sparkly though!
I like the color pink, but i have a mild obsession (to use the term lightly) with the color grey.
I seriously just need a big pack of grey patterned paper. This paper is from a 6x6 hostess pack from SU that I have been hoarding because i'm afraid of running out!

I loooooove this moody girl named Moody for Fun. She's definitely one of my favorites. I think it's her hair. :) P.s i'm so bored with my hair right now... i need to do something to it!

Here is a couple close up shots...

Now i do apologize.... i know i normally give you all the color details, but this card uses the Copic Munkie bundle colors of the month and I'm going to let them use it as a sample and since the bundle colors are only available to club members, i can't reveal them BUT you can check out the Copic Munkie Blog for some info on bundle colors every month as well as contact the store (Funkie Munkie Scraps) about club info. :) PS Rachel has done a faboosh job coloring a different moody girl with these colors, so you can check that out on the Copic Munkie blog as well.

Ok, well i'm pooped and I actually have a tutorial to film while everyone is in bed and it's already after midnight so i'm going to cut this post short, get it scheduled up and then get to work. Pray that my coffee machine works in the morning and that they dont cancel school because i'm not sure i'll be able to handle my wild one on little sleep! hahaha!

Don't forget if you want to play along with the challenge to link up your card to Mr. Linky on the Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge PMS post...
Every challenge for the entire month we are giving a stamp set away! You dont want to miss it!

Makeup 4 the Weekend Challenge - M4TW14

>> Friday, January 29, 2010

Woohoo! I did it! I actually got something done for the PMS Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge!
I wasnt sure it was going to happen! But after walking along the beach for a couple hours and then going up and down the boardwalk at least 4 times (it's a long boardwalk!) my kids were POOPED! I think Gabe might have taken the longest nap he has ever taken! I'm not sure what i'm in for tonight! haha! So, while the kiddos were down, i took the time to play a little with a digi scrapbook layout!

First, let me do the spiel.... every friday a different PMS Makeup Artist (thats a design team member!) issues a makeup 4 the Weekend challenge on the PMS blog. Christi (what would i do without her) arranges everything and posts her creation along with the challenger! So you just simply have to go to the PMS blog to check them out! And to see who else is playing this week!
This is also where you can link up your project and then next thursday, Tangii will show you a showoff of everyone's cards! Super fun!

This week our Challenger was Christi Snow. She gave us a fabulous inspiration challenge from a photo she found in the Pottery Barn catalog...

Here is the inspiration photo...

Isnt that gorgeous! I wish i could have a fun bedroom like that! My hubby pretty much kabooshes any idea of fun or frilly things in the bedroom. It's pretty simple and slightly manly in there (minus the man smell, thats where i take over! haha!)

Well, being in a bit of a limited supply... i decided to work on a digi scrapbook page! I think digi scrapping is fun, i just dont know how good i am at it! That paired with the fact that i take inspiration challenges entirely too literally (ok, sometimes i think thats just a fun way to make it even more challenging)... here is the digi layout i came up with!

Ok, so admittedly there isnt a whole lot of PMS on there, but the sentiment at the top is one of the wordarts that PMS offers as both a rubber stamp (in the Friendly Flowers set) and as a single digi wordart... just for the digi scrappers who love the PMS wordart style and want to use them on their digi layouts! You can of course buy a digi version and print out the wordart as well. :)

The blue polka dot paper came from the Alphabet Soup kit by Melissa Bennett at Sweet Shoppe Designs. I had thought i'd use a little more of the kit, but i ended up created most of the rest of the layout in photoshop (including the black and white polka dot... i was very impressed with myself!) The red ribbon at the top is all Melissa, but the rest of the layout (flowers too) is my own. :)

So thats what i have for ya today! Perhaps on a day with a wee bit more time i'll show you the super easy way to create brads and things in a digi layout. That way you will always be able to adorn your digi layout pages with the exact colors in the layout even if you dont have them in the digi kit!

Have a wonderful day everyone!!!!

Makeup 4 the Weekend Challenge - M4TW13

>> Friday, January 22, 2010

It's time for another Makeup4theWeekend challenge from Paper Makeup Stamps!
This week it was Amber's turn to get your juices flowing with this fabulous sketch...

In a stamping group i'm in, the stamplicious yahoo group, our feburary homepage contest is any valentine's day card! So i'm doing a bit of a combo!
I decided to use one of the new releases from PMS... isabella. I think she's one of my new favorite fairies. Yes i'm aware i say that every month!

Here is my take on the sketch... um, ok so my "take" is usually pretty straight forward to the sketch! Less thinking that way! :)

If you read yesterday's post, you'll remember i'm playing with a new coloring technique (new to me) of doing high contrast. Leaving the center mostly uncolored or with an extremely pale color and using a much darker color in the recesses of the image. Hence the words, high contrast. haha. This is what i'm working on with my students in the Copic Club i help to run at Funkie Munkie Scraps.

Here is a detailed color shot...

Remember you can scroll down to "the deets" to read the colors used for this image. You can also double click any of the images to open them larger and reeeeeally see the detail. :)

Here's a few other detail shots... i'll keep them smaller cause you may not care, but you can still double click em to open them larger!

You might have almost missed my sentiment. It's reeeeeally small! Ok, it's not THAT small. it's about an inch. Are you puzzled at where that came from? It's actually just a portion of the Made with Love By stamp thats comes in the mini made with love set. I simply used a marker to make sure only the words i wanted were inked up and then cut it out with the smallest circle in the nestie set. A punch would have probably been easier. hahaha.

If you want to play along in the challenge, go on over to Paper Makeup Stamps and link up your card! And remember if you are uploading to a public gallery to use the keywords PMS, Paper Makeup Stamps and M4TW13!

Makeup 4 the weekend Challenge

>> Friday, January 15, 2010

Ok, can I just say that i am TI_RED! I'm typing up this post at near 1 am because i didnt make my challenge card until AFTER the PMS release party! What was i thinking?!

This week's Makeup Artist Challenger was Tina Hale! Now i know i dont always get the chance to participate in the makeup 4 the weekend challenges, but her challenge was to make anything birthday because her birthday is coming up in just a few days!!!!

(by the way, tina is the sweetest thing over, i got the sweetest gift from her today in the mail! i'll post it in a coupla days when i get a picture of it!)

SO not only did i want to make a card in honor of sweet tina's birthday... but we just released so many fun birthday images and sentiments last night... how could i resist playing?!

Here is my card using Bobo the Clown Fairy!

Ok, i'll be honest here... i had NO idea where i was going with this layout? Other than the fact that i was too tired to get up and was using random scraps of paper (hence the circle with the scallop that had been cut out of it! HAHAHAHAHAHA!
But once it all started to come together i thought it was kinda fun!

I also decided to play a little with my copics and color in a way that is entirely not the way i color. Um, i think i'll go back to my standard way, but it was fun to go outside of the box for a little bit. :)

Here are some detail shots for you...

I also for i think the first time ever, did the inside of my card! Not just stamped the inside, i've done that silly! But i actually layered some paper, made it match the front sort of thing. Also using random scraps, but hey, that seemed to be the route i took for the front, so whatever!

and now for....

Stamps: Paper Makeup Stamps
Coloring with copics
Colors Used in balloons: R20, B00, B12, V12, G24, Y18, YR12, BG13, R24

Pumpkin Pie ribbon from SU
Bling from Studio G

Thanks for stopping by today!
