Welcome Baby!

>> Friday, November 28, 2008

One of my best friends just had her baby girl early this morning!!!! If you want to go leave a little love on her blog for when she gets back home, i'm sure she'd love it!

I'm so excited to see the new precious baby! And to spoil her with all things girly! Rachel's water broke in the wee hours of the morning and she had a scheduled c section for monday! ACK! SO they rushed her in and she had a c-section in the middle of the night. I havent seen her yet (insert my boohoo here). I did give her a ring this morning and left her a message. The hospital is only a mile frm my house so i'm in heavy restraint to not just drive on over! But i also want to be a good friend and now crowd. I'll see the baby soon enough i suppose. That is if i dont completely cave and go in a little later today. :) Maybe i'll just take something yummy to eat and leave it there. What can c-section mommies eat???

Anyhoo - to pass the time i made her a little welcome baby card.

I purposely bought this sweet pea stamp from great impressions just to make this card! I just thought the image was so cute! The Welcome Little One sentiment i also bought just for this card and i've been waiting since i bought it at the stamp expo in september (you know, the one i walked around for hours trying to get my own bambino to come out!) so i was super excited to ink them up today!

I colored the image with copic markers (of course) and totally forgot to highlight with my white gel pen. I still probably will. haha. I restamped the image and colored the flower and then trimmed it out to pop up on the card. I always love it when others do this, but i rarely do it myself. I always seem to forget it's an option. I colored on top of the flower and over the baby's blanket with a spica pen. This little girl is gonna be glam, so she needed some sparkles on the card!

My sentiment piece i wanted to do the same scalloped oval theme (i used the large nesties ovals - and decided i need to get the small ovals as well so i can get some better matting going on), but since the sentiment was so long, i ended up with a lot of white space. So i stamped out the image again and cut out another flower (after coloring... dont try to color the little cut out, it'll drive you batty) and then i popped it up as well.

Additional deets...
Cardstock is Sweet Blush from Papertrey Ink, Wild Wasabi from SU and White by Georgia Pacific
Patterened Paper is designer prints in wild wasabi from SU
eyelets are spare parts
ribbon is sweet blush polka dot by papertrey ink

Thanks for stopping by and CONGRATULATIONS RACHEL!

a new technique

It isnt the best picture in the world... i took it in my car! Yep, thats right, it was sitting on my lap in my car. Haha. I was taking this thank you card over to my friends house since she was hosting a cookout for my "mom's group". But she's also a cardmaker (and a fab one at that) and she was my guinea pig for a stamping technique i had wanted to try, and then i forgot to take a picture! Argh.

Anywoo - the technique is to stamp on good thick vellum (like vellum cardstock - regular vellum is too thin for this and your likely to tear it). Stamp your image (mine is the August Stamp of the Month from Great Impressions). I actually then heat set the image but mainly because it still looked wet and i know vellum isnt as porous as other papers. Turn your vellum over and then run a stylus tool in the areas you want to emboss. I chose just inside of the leaves. On the other side the leaves will turn white where embossed. I then colored in the leaves on both sides to make sure the color really popped. I just used my copic markers because i did want to do a little bit of shading but you could use whatever markers you prefer. And that's that!

There are flowers on the stamp, but i wasnt thrilled with how i colored them plus i wanted even more dimension so i used some itsy bitsy primas i had. I did line underneath the vellum with another piece of cardstock but only because i wanted to hide the back of the brads from where i attached the flowers. If you were using large enough flowers that the brad fasteners wouldnt show thru, then it wouldnt be a problem. I also scallopped the edge of my vellum only with the SU scallop border punch and used the word window punch which after i punched i thought, you know i shouldnt have done that, but it was done. And punching on the card itself is like cutting hair... you just cant put it back! So i left it and stamped a Thank You from Technique Tuesday's Simple Sentiments.

And that was my card! :)

Ok - so my hubby is out of town on a fishing trip with the boys. And then of course i felt awful last night (pregnancy wise). Go figure right? I felt queasy with a bad headache. So i decided to make coffee at 9:30 at night. Probably not the best of ideas. The jackster fell asleep on top of me on the couch around 10:30 so i just moved him into my bedroom. I curled up and was ready to go to sleep myself but i couldnt get this Nichole Heady card outta my head. Then i started thinking about stamps i could use the "wall background" with that i owned since i havent yet gotten my "out on a limb" set from PTI. Then my brain just wouldnt stop. "oh i could use one of my 'fluffie' (as jack calls them) stamps", "ooo, i could add fun flock to make them fuzzy (another thing i've seen done to flowers on cards and just not yet tried)", "ooo i could use chalks and versamark". My brain just kept going anf going and i know anytime i obsess with something like that before bed then i'll dream about it all night long and it wakes me up and it's just a pain. So i drag myself out of bed and made these 2 cards (because i couldnt decide what color cardstock to use. I think i hyped myself up on them a little too much because now i just think there is something else that needs done. I may try to make them again since i've had sleep and am not loopy on coffee. :)

But in any case - here are my late night creations...
