>> Monday, November 22, 2010

Has it really been a week since i've posted on here?! Where does the time go?
I've been plenty crafty... but i guess a busy schedule and a sick kiddo, i just forgot to post anything on here! WOOPS!

Well, to make up for my lack in posting, i'm going to share a coloring video.
This video was send out to all the Paper Makeup Stamps newsletter subscribers on November 20th. We're doing some fun new things with the newsletter. On the 20th of the month, we'll be sending out a fun filled newsletter that might have a tutorial, or project for you to try, or even a freebie digi. It will change from month to month, but you gotta sign up to get it.
But this time, I'm sharing!

Here it is...

Edited to add, i'm not sure why the video isnt coming up for everyone. Try this direct link if it doesnt show up above...

Refilling copics and making custom colors

>> Sunday, November 22, 2009

Hey there everyone! This is just a quick little video tutorial. I've been asked by many how i refill my copic markers. I dont do it any special way, but for those that have never seen a marker refilled before, this might be helpful to watch.

In the end of the video i also show you how i make custom colors (you know, when you go "man, why hasnt copic made a color to go inbetween G24 and G28!")

The other type of custom colors i like to make that i dont reference in the video is lighter version of some of my favorites (like Y21 for example). I do it the same way as in the video but i use colorless blender solution as one of my colors. So 5 drops y21, 5 drops blender solution, 5 drop y21, 5 drops blender solution, etc.

Enjoy!

Time for some smokey eyes!

>> Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Ok everyone, i'm so sorry it's been a minute since i've posted a video! We've been redoing and remodleing and painting and i've even tried taping some videos but just havent had the time to edit them!

Anyhoo - here is a super fun one using PURPLE! I love purple. I've tried to say i dont (high school color, i think i OD'ed on purple in highschool) but truth be told, i just really love the color purple! Not lavendar as much, i'm talking deep rich purple. Love it! The great thing about purple as an eye color is it truly works well with just about any skin tone! It's a great way to pull off a color look without going overboard.

This video makes a very easy smokey eye using purple but it's also not over the top so ANYONE can wear it! Check it out!

Makeup Monday! A video tutorial

>> Monday, November 2, 2009

Hiya everyone! Well a bit back when i asked for suggestions on what everyone wants to see on my blog... i got a big response to BRING MAKEUP MONDAYS BACK! I know i've posted some other makeup videos randomly, but i'm going to try to have one for you every monday. I'm sure i'll slip up now and then and i'll try to make up for it... get it? Make Up? hehehe. Ok, i'm a cheeseball.

In any case, here is a video tutorial using the new-ish Notoriety Quad by MAC. You dont have to have this quad to do this look. They are great fall colors, but you could substitute any colors you would like. :)

I have some other tutorials in the works and one video that focuses on my favorite brushes. But if there is something you'd like to see, leave me a comment and I'll try to get it worked out for ya!

Here's the video... and a little FYI, it's uploaded quite large so you can see the detail. Click on the video if it's too big for your screen and it will open it up to full view. :)

Are you ready to get made up?

>> Sunday, October 25, 2009

Yep, it's time for another makeup video. At the request of many, i'm going to try to do more of these and I will post them on here as well as my makeup blog. Now i do post some other things (like photos of projects i'm working on, some product reviews, etc) and I wont double post everything, but I will double post a lot of the YouTube videos so those that are really only interested in those dont have to subscribe to both blogs. :) Another tip, on the left hand side of THIS blog, i have a running list of the latest posts to the makeup blog. So when you are checking out a post here, you can always peek and see if there is a new post you missed (if you are interested that is!)

OK - onto the VIDEO! This is a very very basic video. It's all about getting your face prepped and primed for the colors of makeup. So it takes you from a fresh faced no makeup at all me (SCARY) thru primer, foundation, concealer, powder, etc. I tell you my favorite products that I use regularly so it's worth a lookie. :)

Have a wonderful sunday!

Color with Me! Using Melody from Paper Makeup Stamps

>> Friday, October 23, 2009

So i did a color with me video last week and finally got around to editing it a bit. When i sped up the video, the marker caps flew past the screen so i was afraid it would be tricky to know what colors i was using. So i got all that info edited in there. I also put some music to it because it's so much nicer with sound. Got it all uploaded to YouTube and what happens? They disabled the audio. Sony wouldnt let me use the songs. Irgh.

So here it is... silent. I'm working on doing an Audio Swap with a free permission song, but it's taking it's sweet time!

I still have to make a card with my colored image so thats coming soon too!

I hope you all enjoy!

Color With Me!

>> Friday, October 9, 2009

Hiya everyone! Well i've decided to do a little something new... not with every card by any means, but i want to have a video series called "Color With Me" (thank you rachel for coming up with the name!)

In this video series, i'll basically just be turning on the video camera and letting it film while i'm coloring. Why would i do this? Well, i'm a firm believer that you can learn quite a bit just from watching. I LOVE to watch other artists! Whether it's watching someone else apply makeup, or color and image, paint a portrait, sculpt a pot, the list goes on and on. I just love to watch and take it all in! You can never know it all! There is always more out there! I think by watching others you can pick up little tips and tricks, learn a new product, color combo, technique, etc. Then go and practice it yourself! Make it your own! Thats what makes art so much fun!

Ok, climbing down from my little soapbox now. :) The first video in the series is using the image i used on my blog hop card (Moody for Apples, now available at www.papermakeup.com). I actually did end up putting in quite a bit of the directions in editting mode. When i have time i will do this, but editting is a lengthy process! I know i'll get faster, but still, some of the videos may end up being strictly watch only videos! haha.

Also to note... many of the areas have been sped up. It gets quite boring watching an image being colored in real time. Trust me! Plus YouTube videos for the lowly like myself must be less than 10 minutes. So i have to make sure they fit in the time frame. Besides, less time watching gives you more time DO'ing! :)

So sit back, and I hope you enjoy! Please feel free to rate it, comment there or here, and leave feedback of what else you'd like to see in the Color With Me series! :)

ONTO THE VIDEO! Special note... click on the name of the video in the top left corner and it will take you to the YouTube page it's on. You only need to do this if you want to enlarge the picture so it fills your screen a little more. Once on the YouTube page, click the red HQ button on the lower left side.

I know some of you could care less about the makeup stuff, but there were quite a few emails when i stopped doing Makeup Monday so i just thought i'd get your input! :)

Black and White copic color plus videos and a image swap for soldiers!

>> Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Ok, you all know my obsession with black and white, yes?

Well, this past month in the copic club i help to run, we used grey copic markers to get the feel of a black and white photo. After running the club/class twice as well as filming a video and doing a step by step photo demo my my own of town students, i ended up with about 8 or 9 black or white colored tildas! That doesnt even include the ones that are partically colored! haha! I made 3 of them into cards. I plan to send the rest of the precolored images to my dear friend, Michelle. She is hosting a colored image swap for soldier cards. You can read all about her swap HERE

The reason i decided to turn 3 of the images into cards is because i did something different with each of the images. The main layout of the card is the same, but each is slightly varied because i was trying to use up scraps for the cards! Go me!

Here's the first card... just a "black and white" card with no extra colors added...

Pretty yes? I used warm grey copics for this. Because i didnt have the patterned paper i longed for (not to self... find some awesome grey patterned paper! Anyone know of any!???), i used some grey cardstock that i love because it's the perfect warm grey from hobby lobby of all places. I used my new stampin up background. Inked it up in some craft white ink (actually from CTMH and it's called white daisy, but any would do) and created myself some patterned paper. :) For the "negative" version of this i used the same background stamp, and inked it up in going grey ink from Stampin Up. The thinking of you sentiment doesnt show up as nicely as i would have liked, but oh well.

Here's card 2... This time i used RV93 (a very dusky grey purple color.... this whole color family is just really really pretty, not too purple, not too pink, not too grey.... love it!) and colored in Tildas lilacs.

Unfortunately, i couldnt get these to photograph to show their real beauty. I guess the black and white is just harder to capture. But i LOVE how this card turned out! Just a subtle and soft pop of color. Can you have a soft pop? I guess thats kinda an ironic thing to say?

And here's my last card... Same thing as before, only this time i added flower soft to the petals in her basket and the ones floating around her...

I'm still learning flower soft, but all i did was dab the flowersoft glue on the flowers (and the flowersoft glue appears to me just like any liquid white glue except maybe it dries a little faster? i added glue all over and then then applied the flowersoft and it had already dried in some spots and i had to add more glue. The flowersoft used was "Lavender" and it definitely pops out on the card. A very neat effect! I can think of a lot of stamps (like cottage windows surrounded by flower pots!) to color in black and white and then use flower soft on!!!! It would be sooooo pretty!

So those are my 3 cards... and as promised... here are some video tutorials of what i did... again, maybe not the bestest job filming... i'm still learning!

and here's video 2... just a continuation of the first video but i was running out of time!
