A special Stamp for a Special Family

>> Thursday, April 30, 2009

I really wanted to have my card done in time to post this... but oh well. Maybe you'll see a 2nd post from me later today because the image is colored, but other than that, the card is way from finished.

Fairly recently i came across this blog, http://kayleighannefreeman.blogspot.com, about a little baby girl, her struggle for life, and her family's struggle to stay afload thru it all. It struck a cord with me personally for many many reasons. A few days ago a friend of theirs posted on the family blog about the family's need for financial assistence. I knew immediately this was something I wanted to do. Something that I wanted to help others to do. I called up Diem (the illustrator for the Beautiful Day Fairies collection of Paper Makeup Stamps and asked how fast she could draw me up a new stamp. She loved the idea and we chatted a bit about what we wanted and today I can present to you...

A Fairy for Kayleigh from Paper Makeup Stamps

I am thrilled at how she turned out. Diem SO gets every word i say, it's incredible to have someone working like that on my team!!! All proceeds of this digi stamp (she'll be turned into a rubber stamp probably in June) will go directly to the Freeman family. You can purchase this stamp HERE.

But wait, there's more! PMS is not the only company helping this sweet baby girl and her very faithful family! Modern Sugar Blvd is also donating proceeds from Precious Prayer and Sweetnilla Collection will also be going towards the family.

And wait... thats not even all!

Go to THIS POST to see how you can enter to win a gift certificate to the PMS store.

Casein' away on a Wednesday

>> Wednesday, April 29, 2009

I actually cased THIS CARD a bit back (ok, like 2 weeks ago) when I wanted to do a simple card with a big impact for the cards crop/class at chic fil a. I browsed thru my "favorites" gallery on splitcoast and found one i had favorited eon's ago by Debbie who is now one of my favorite blogs to browse. ironic huh? Of course i didnt know it at the time. Or maybe it was this card that turned me onto her blog in the first place. Who knows... like i said it was forever ago. :)

Well, unfortunately for me, i dont have the nestabilties plain square to emboss with. but i'm thinking i need it. So instead i layered my colored squares onto slightly larger white squares to help them pop out against the background.
I also changed the color layout just a bit. For the class i have about 16 different colored squares for them to choose from. Go figure, there were only 2 people there and now i have a bajillion little colored squares. But you know... these would make fast and fabulous thank yous! hmm... the wheels are turning. :)

Anyhoo - the flower stamp is from a CTMH mini set called Beauty. The cardstock colors are from the current In Colors by Stampin Up. And the sentiment is from Mixed Messages from Papertrey Ink.

Thanks to Teachers!

This will have to be a quick post since i have to leave to pick up my preschooler very soon! What me? not wordy?? I know.. it'll be a shocker!

My son's preschool is having a teacher's luncheon tomorrow. I was asked by one of the mom's (who knew i like crafty things) if i would make placecards for each teacher. She decided to get some quotes from students in each class to see if i could use them. let me tell you... kids say some really funny stuff. But some of it was so sweet too!

We knew we wanted to keep everything colorful, but i didnt want everything to look the same, so i choose Sorbet (PTI), Groovy Guava (retired in color from SU), Cool Caribbean (retired in color from SU) and some random green that i think is SU but who knows in my paper stash. I printed the teachers names and quotes on Neenah because now that i've used it, i'm a neenah snob and GP just doesnt have the pretty smooth white finish that i want! :)

Here's a view of all the cards (16 of them i think... i blurred out the children's last names)

Here's a closeup of one so you can see a little detail. Yes i know i didnt blur out the last name... i'm the mama, and i give myself permission. :) And yes, thats exactly what my 3 year old said he liked about his teacher. Laster he also told me he didnt like her, he LOVED her. Woops, i already had the cards finished. I'll have to tell her the correction.

Other tools used...
Cat's Eyes Chalk Inks
Swiss Dots cuddlebug folder (and machine)
Branch Punch from martha stewart crafts
butterfly punch from martha stewart crafts
Baroque Motifs swirl stamp and white daisy (ctmh) ink (stamped on the cardstock before punching out the butterflies)

ok... now i have 4 minutes to pick jack up. good thing i live close! :)

Man! After a LONG weekend (with prom hair and makeup galore, birthday parties, and other things going on) i'm actually very excited to get back to the more every day routine (which is endless of course) of my life. I made a 20 page scrapbook for the birthday party as well as a shadowbox frame. Did i remember to take pictures of any of it? no i did not. Bad crafty person... bad!

I still have a few cards i need to post, so not all is lost. haha.

But more on the reason i posted this entry before showing off a card. And beware... this has been weighing on my mind... it could get lengthy!

Last week i got a sad email. A scrapbook store in Easley (a town about 20 minutes or so away) was closing down. The owner is a friend of mine. She's the one that owned The Scrapbook Company where i taught before. She's moving back to Florida to work at her old job (they called her out of the blue and asked her to come back) and as she put it to me... she and her husband needed health insurance more than she needed a scrapbook store. So she has lost both of her stores in the past year. Very sad. I wish her the best and hope that she is happy back at her previous job.

On thursday afternoon, i decided to make the drive down to her store just to see what goodies she had left. Now for some... making only a 20 minute drive to go to a local store would be heavenly. Since moving to South Carolina, I have been blessed with many scrapbook stores around me. But one by one... they are dying. And it's oh so very very sad! Main Street Memories in Easley is the 4th that have shut it's doors in the 3 years that i have lived here. I know there were others that suffered untimely deaths before I moved here as well.

Then when I was at Belinda's shop... i heard another local scrapbook shop in Easley was closing! Creative Chaos will also be closing it's doors. Now i had never been there. I tried once or twice, but the store carried odd hours and i never seemed to get them right. The odd hours may have hindered the shop's success. But it's still sad to see a craft shop go down.

Then on Saturday i got a letter saying a very local shop (it's within 2 miles from my house) will also be closing it's doors! This one had me in total shock. I didnt realize the store was doing so poorly. My dear friend, Jan (whom i worked with at The Scrapbook Company) works there. I wonder if she saw it coming. This one is quite as sad of a story... they are closing their brick and mortar store to return focus to their online shop ... http://www.scrapbooksupplystore.com. Locals will be able to buy online and then pick up at the warehouse, but no more in store browsing (unless someone happens to be at the warehouse. So it's just very very sad to me!

I guess economic times are hard for everyone. But that being said. it's still a very sad thing to see the little people go under. Being a "little company" myself. It kinda makes me never want to shop at a chain place again!

Ok... my soap box has tipped over and this post has gotten very very long... but it's been on my mind and i wanted to get it out. For those who have even beared with my rambling this long... here is a card for you today. It's a card i created for Funkie Munkie Scraps using Argus from Paper Makeup Stamps.

All products used on this card are available at Funkie Munkie Scraps.
Patterend Paper (on sale for a huge 60% off) is by American Crafts. See that fun scalloped border? It's already cut on the paper. Easy peasy. Cardstock is by bazzill. LOVE their rich browns and there are so many to choose from! Buttons are from the glorious button bin. You can get 20 buttons for like a buck. Outstanding deal!!!! And the floss is bazzil's In Stitches. Now i have a slew of cross stitch thread but this stuff is a little thicker and wonderful. It's also made for paper so you arent going to get dust and fuzzies while you are sewing on your paper.
OH - and Argus is colored with copics. (of course, you know i love my copics!)
His body is e35 and E37. I did a wee bit of shading with E29 as well. The green spots are YG21 and YG25. Teddy is E43 and E44.

Thanks so much for stopping by and listening to my rant today!

Splitcoast Featured Stamper

I'm finally getting to the feature stamper challenge from splitcoast this week. I know i dont usually do this challenge (though it is definitely a fun one!), but this weeks feature stamper is a friend of mine (and member of the PMS design team), Jamie Morris!

Not only is Jamie a truly fab stamper (and colorer), she has these fantastic ideas of how to tie ribbon, add embellishments, etc. I LOVE that! I never think of them myself! Trying to work on that. She is also sweeter than a pot of golden honey! And just a beautiful girl! So yeah, one of those people you want to hate but just absolutely cant! :)

Here is my version of her adorable emma card...

I decided to case this card of hers because i adore how she attached her button (ok, i love her coloring of the image and the layout too!) I wanted to use one of my new embossing folders that i got the other day from AC Moore. It's a sizzix embossing folder. fun fun fun! They come in packs of 2 and retail (at ac moore) for 10.99. And of course i used my 50% off coupon. :)

I also wanted to use the "April Munkie See Munkie Do" color combo from Copic Munkie. Only club members will normally get to know the actual colors in the "munkie see munkie do" combo... but since the club really fully starts on national scrapbook day, i get to tell them to you! Next month you will just get to see some of the fun creations and have to guess! BWAHAHAHAHAHAH! The color combo this month is R32, R35, R37. Club members will get to purchase the MSMD colors for a special bundle price. Check out the blog for more details on that. :)

Other Colors used:
Copics Skin E00, E21
Hair E35, E37

Cardstock used: Ruby Red (Stampin Up), Sorbet (PTI) and Neenah Solar White
Ribbon is Sorbet Grosgrain by PTI
Button is by American Crafts

Ketto Tuesday & some Bella Candy!!!

>> Thursday, April 23, 2009

So i've had my ketto stamps for entirely too long to have not used them yet! Seriously! It's bad! SO i finally got Kenya Ketto (from Stamping Bella) inky! I decided with the name Kenya, she definitely needed to have a darker skintone than my typic colors i grab! Plus, i wanted to do something special for some of my fav ladies that take my classes at Funkie Munkie! :) They know who they are!!!!!

Here is my card...

I wanted this card to be super bright and fun! So i used some super fun papers from American Crafts. I paired it with black cardstock for a nice contrast. :) There are Kaisercraft pearls in black (now isnt that fun!) in the center of her flowers on her dress and on his wish stick.

Kenya is colored with copic markers. Here's the rundown for my copic lovin' fans...

Skin: E34, E45, E04 (cheeks)
Dress: Reds are R17, R27, Yellows are Y32, Y35, Y38, Oranges are YR14, YR16, YR18, Blue is B00
You cant tell it in the photo but she's got some MAD spica going on too. :)

And yes... i have some Bella Candy Info for you!!!! :)

As mentioned in my previous post... Funkie Munkie Scraps is having some fun new clubs kicking off on national scrapbook day. Each club has a blog. One club is a bella club! So hop on over to http://stampingbellafms.blogspot.com/ to read about it and enter to win some yummies!!!! You do not have to be local to be a club member. Club specials are open to everyone!

And then here is a picture of Sally Lynn and I

My budz Rachel and Kel were there as well but they scooted out the door as i was bustin' out my camera. maybe they just didnt want their pictures taken! haha!

My mom left town monday afternoon. I love my mom! I mean most people love their moms but it's no exception for me. She truly is one of my very best friends! And she's gettin crafty! So on monday after her babysitting obligations from the weekend were done, we went crafty shopping! WOOHOOOOOOO! And i got some new embossing templates from Sizzix that i can not WAIT to try out!!!!

Yesterday was a catch up day for me. And again, i've had some cards to post but just no time to do it! BUT i'm happy to say all the new releases are in progress for Paper Makeup Stamps! We will be having a release party (more info on that soon) on May 7th!!!!!

ANd today is EARTH DAY! So "Happy Earth Day" everyone! Here is the card i made for Chic Fil A. Not that i made it there... jack locked himself (and his baby brother) in the garage this morning - hence why this post is so late!!!!

For this card i used Sprout (i know i use her a lot... but she was actually created for Earth Day so i just HAD to use her!!!!!!) and the happy earth day sentiment from Paper Makeup Stamps. The clouds i created using my new cloud stencils from Great Impressions. I still need to work on this technique, maybe use sponges that i'm use to for one thing! Bur it was fun to play!!! The patterned paper is from DCWV and the butterflies were punched with a martha stewart punch.
To color the image i used copic colors:
Skin:E00, E31, E02,

Basket Auction time again!

>> Saturday, April 18, 2009

If you've been a reader of my blog for a long time (well, since near the beginning!) you may remember last year around this time when i did baby cards for a basket auction at my church.  Well, it's basket auction time again!  This year I'm putting together another themed card basket only this time i'm only doing a color theme instead of like last years baby theme.  Gotta spice it up a bit!!!  Haha.  My goal is to make at least 12 cards for the basket.  I will also be making a stamp holder, altered notepad and a pen.  So you may get tired of this color combo from me in the next month!  haha.  I'll try to lump the cards together in posts.  So far though, i only have 1 card done!

I actually LOVE how this card turned out. I used my new nesties from my WONDERFUL friend Angela who was a secret sister friend in fabulous local group to me Fancy Paper Crafters. She got these for me along with a slew of other WONDERFUL things! She is such a wonderful friend!!!
I also used my new set from Stampin Up called Thoughts and Prayers. I will probably use this set quite a bit for the basket and just in general because it's a darn cute set!!!!! :)

Thanks for stopping by today!!!!

Happy Birthday Molly!

>> Friday, April 17, 2009

Today is my good friend Molly's Birthday!!! I didnt post this project this until later because i wanted to be sure i had given it to her before i posted!

I knew her favorite quote was this quote..
"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. - Helen Keller"

I also knew i had this in a stamp set by Paper Trey Ink (stamp set is Out on a Limb Sentiments). So my brain starting turning. What do use this on...hmmm... hmmmmmmmm. Then i remembered a Project that Shannan Tuebner had done awhile back using a wood plaque. Ok.. truth be told... i was digging thru my trunk of alterables (yes, i have an entire trunk dedicated to stuff that one day i'll get around to altering) and i found a bunch of wooden plaques which i bought after reading this post of shannan's and always planned to do something with.

SO - i finally had something to do! I still have a few of the wooden plaques left... i may be making more soon! It was so easy and super fun. :)

Ok, here is my project...

It's not the bestest of pictures because i kinda forgot to take a picture until we got to her house! Luckily i had my camera in my back pocket so i just took a quickie in the car (hence the yellow tissue paper around it!)

I simply painted the wood plaque with acrylic paint and let it dry. I then swiped all the edges with antiquing medium. The top i stamped the branch and leaves (from Papertrey's Out on a Limb. I adore this set because the branch is a separate stamp from all the flowers. AND there are different stamps to put on the branch (some pretty flowers, leaves of different types, berries, etc). And since they are a different stamp, using different ink colors is no problemo! I stamped the sentiment from the Out on a Limb Sentiments set above the branch. I then sprayed the entire thing with a matte acrylic sealer mainly because i wanted her to have the option of using it for a coaster if she so choosed. This is also why i didnt add anything 3d to the front. I wanted the surface to remain flat but i did think of putting pearls inside of each flower petal and if she does decide to put it up on a wall, i will probably sneak the pearls on there. hahaha.

This weekend is a busy one for me! My mom gets into town late tonight! Tomorrow i have a wedding to do and then Sunday i am getting Copic Certified! WOOHOO! Super excited about that! I do have a post set and ready for tomorrow and then i'm sure my mom and i will craft some saturday night so i wont be a stranger! :)

Welcome Back, Teacher!

>> Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Thank Goodness for precolored images! OK, so let me tell you a little secret... i love to color. hahahaha. Like you didnt know that. I'm often very wary of my card layout skills. But coloring i can handle. So often i just sit around and color images. Then i end up with a big stack of colored images that never get made into cards!

Well... sometimes when you need to make a card in *GASP* about 5 minutes... these precolored images can come in very very handy! That's what i did here. I remembered jack's teacher was going to be back from her 3 week leave (she had surgery). I love Jack's teacher. She's actually a friend of mine from the church. And i had wanted to make her a card for when she got back. This precolored Teacher Anya was just perfect! :)

Here's my card...

Deets:
Stamp: Teacher Anya from The Greeting Farm
DP is tart n tangy from Stampin Up.
Cardstock is Bazzill

I'm on a roll

I'm on a roll with the card making, the blog posting, and even a little bit on the house cleaning! Can i get a WOOT WOOOOOOT! Ok, so i'm proud of myself. Though i'm still sick and now have thrush on the girlies from nursing a thrush mouthed baby. Let me tell you, it makes the girlies SORE! Ok, no one really wanted to know that!

This was a fairy simple card created by using the sketch from this caardvarks sketch challenge though i do have to admit, it is much more of a CASE from this card here by Heather Pulvirenti. I thought this card was so simple yet stunning that i just had to case it! Plus i needed a card to do at Chic Fil A last week, so this one was it!

Here's my card...

I used the largest stamp from the swirlie buds set from Paper Makeup Stamps and i realized i dont give this set enough love either! I colored the stamp with LePlume markers to get the bud a different color than the stem. The sentiment is from an old Stampin Up set (though i dont know which one, because i just have the stamp!

Thanks for stopping by today!

One more post for monday!

>> Monday, April 13, 2009

After some consideration and prompting from some readers, i decided to open back up my Etsy Shop! I figured, why not?! The cards are made and sitting here anyway! So why not let them go to a home where someone will either love them, or send them to someone else who will love them!

Here's a little preview...

Many of my PMS fairy cards have gone into the shop along with some other favorites that i just cant bare to have sitting in a box anymore! I'll keep adding to the shop as cards are created without recipients. :)

My etsy mini shop (that the little blinkie you see above) will stay in my sidebar for easy access.

Ok.. it's done, it's up. Now i cant say i didnt do it. :)

PMS Monday Challenge: All Tied Up!

It's monday so that means another monday challenge over at the PMS blog. This weeks challenge was issues by Design Team Member, Dawn Barrett. Her challenge is an embellishment challenge to use ribbon on a card or layout. Now i use ribbon on cards a LOT! And seeing the design team's submission ahead of time made me wary of how i'd use my ribbon. They all had such ingenious ways to use their ribbon!

Well, i still didnt come up with a fantastic way to use the ribbon, but i had a fun idea i really wanted to use with Dawdling Turtle, so this will have to do. hahaha.

Here is my card...

I colored the turtle's head, feet, tail and underbelly with copic markers but his shell is paper pieced. I really dont use the paper piecing technique enough, because the result is always so fun! I did use a warm grey copic marker on the paper pieced shell just to give a little bit of shading. I'm not sure if you can even see it in the photo, but it's there. :)

The paper i used i have had for some time and just seem afraid to use it because i just love it SO much! It's by Magnolia and the collection is called Just Dreamy.

So do you even see my ribbon? haha. It's holding up my sentiment. I thought of trying to add more ribbon, but was at a loss as to where!

Hop on over now to the PMS Blog to see everyone else's cards!!!

Happy Easter with a Fairy

>> Sunday, April 12, 2009

Could it BE?! Posting 3 days in a row? Woot Woot! Maybe i'm finally getting back into the swing of things! Thank goodness, but this feeling 2 steps behind is for the birds! :)

Last Monday there was a challenge on the PMS blog issued by Christi (yes i'm aware i'm doing the challenge a little bit close to the end, but hey, i made it before the next challenge... cut me some slack!)
It was an inspiration challenge to use this picture...

Since i never even got Elle the Easter Fairy from Paper Makeup Stamps inky, i thought now was the time! And i'll just have to play with masking out her egg the next time i want to use her! Maybe she could carry a bunch of flowers!
Here is my card...

I used the colors of the eggs in the inspiration picture as my basis for the card. The rest of the layout was from my cold induced stupor. hehe.
You can kind of see the spica pen on her wings and egg in the above picture. Here's a close up of elle... you cant see the spica any better, but you can see the stardust pen i used in the background and you can see her coloring a little better.

Products Used:
Cardstock is all Bazzill (grasshopper, chablis and i'm not sure the name of the blue color): the funky strips are from a bazzill cardstock strips pack.
Copic Markers: Skin (E00, E21, E000, RV11 for cheeks); Hair: E31, E34, Colorless Blender; Dress Shell: RV11, RV34; Dress petticoat: RV000, RV10; Egg: G00, G02, BG01, BG02, Colorless Blender, White Signo Pen, Clear Spica Pen; Shoes: E34, E35; Wings: B000, B00, Clear Spica Pen
Stamps: Elle the Easter Fairy from Paper Makeup Stamps, Sentiment is from Studio G

Thanks for stopping by everyone! I hope you all have a very very wonderful Easter today!

You're Somebunny Special

>> Saturday, April 11, 2009

This was the card we created a week and a half ago for the Chic Fil A class. (this was during my missing camera time!).

I used this creation as inspiration (and a case of the bunny) for the my card.

Here is the card...

My apologies for the poor picture! But i think the bunny came out pretty cute. He was created from a hodgepodge of different punches (fiskars oval punches, CM circle punches, and some various mcgill punches). The sentiment i just printed from the computer.

I'm hoping to play a bit this afternoon before i have class to teach tonight. SO hopefully more creations to post soon!!!

full of empty promises

>> Friday, April 10, 2009

well sheesh... i've been full of empty promises huh? I said i had been coloring so i'd have a lot of cards turned out soon. Yep... no cards. bad me! Actually, i do have 2 cards. And i will post them here in the next few days that wont have much craft time.

I've actually had a few makeup things this week along with the recent April release from Paper Makeup Stamps and i had a coloring class yesterday plus one tomorrow. Whew. tiring week. :)

Ok, so i dont actually have a card to post right this moment, but while my mother-in-law was in town, we decided to play with colored pencils and baby oil. I've really only tried this technique 2 other times. One was a bit back and in my opinion, a bit disasterous. The other turned out really cute at my friend Rachel's stamp camp, but my charming 3 year old took scissors to my colored image before i ever got it on a card. I was actually pleased the with result (much more so than the first time) but it took me about 3 times as long to color than it does with my copics. maybe it's just because of what i'm used to.

Then i used the same image yesterday when i was coloring with copics (and was playing with light reflection to use as an example in my color class). I like the copic version better but i'm very interested to hear everyone else's opinions! :)

THe colored pencil version is on the left and the copic version is on the right. it would have been a better side by side if i had used the same colors, but oh well. :)

My goal is to actually get these put on a card! But Lord knows i have countless colored image sitting all over the place that never make it to cards! haha.

it's a GORJUSS Tuesday!

>> Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Yippie! I'm caught up (mostly) and i found my camera! So i can finally post this card i made a whole week ago! My dear friend, Dawn was sweet enough to send me some images while i wait for my order. :) So i finally got to make a card! WOOHOO! At the time i was playing along with the sugarbowl challenge to make a spingy card. Since the challenge is past and on to the next one... now i just have a springy card! haha.

I used A little birdie told me and decided to make her sitting on a stone wall which i just freehanded with my copics. The rest of the image is color with copics as well. The sentiment is from A birdie told me set by Stampin Up.

Ok, back to cleaning the disaster in my house! Be back soon!

(ps - dont forget to check out www.papermakeup.com for the new releases and today's super tuesday sale of 50% off all monsters!)

Whew - what a week!

Ok, so i feel like a total schmuck for not posting at all really this past week. But it's been a busy week at least! My in laws came to visit... Paper Makeup Stamps has a release (today actually - but i had to get all the preorders out), there were some new whole sale orders (yippiee) and i had lost my camera... found it... then lost it again. Sheesh.

So nothing to post except for the promise of lots of cards very very soon! I've been coloring images here and there as a stress reliever!!! So now all i have to do is turn them into cards. And also photograph the 2 cards i've had done since last week. Yes, it's definitely been a busy busy week!

But there is a release today over at Paper Makeup Stamps with new stamps and new product on the website. Yes this is a totally shameless plug here. But i'm doing it anyway. Dont hate me. :)

No camera wednesday

>> Wednesday, April 1, 2009

I can't find my camera! ANYWHERE! It's very frustrating. I just had it the other day. Where did it vanish to? Whats worse? I have projects to share!!! A gorjuss girl card (thanks to some stamped images from my dear friend Dawn to tide me over. And i have a fun punch art card that we did today at the chic fil a class. And there is more, but i digress. So instead i'm showing you a card i did at one of my close buds' stampin up parties. Typically i dont show these cards on my blog because i didnt design them. But I did love this card, and i did actually stamp it myself and cut it out and all that, so i'm showing it. But Molly designed it. :) And i cant link you to her blog because she hasnt joined the world of papercrafting blog land. I keep telling her she should.

Ok - the card!

I'm pretty sure the paper is bashful blue and chocolate chip. The set is a friend set. Shoot. I need to ask her the actual name! haha.

Ok, back to cleaning in hopes of finding my camera! :)
